Since you asked, here’s how and why I’m voting on each of the California ballot measures…

blurredvision:

NO on 1A - High-Speed Train Bond Act

A train linking LA to San Francisco? No thanks. Especially when it costs twenty billion in taxpayer dollars. Fly Southwest and save the cash.

NO on 2 - Standards for Confining Farm Animals

Sure, baby cows are cute, but this kind of PETA bullshit has no business being on the ballot. This isn’t a health or safety issue… it’s an emotional issue. It pisses me off to think that hard working farmers could lose their livelihood so that a few nutty animal rights activists can get their warm-and-fuzzies.

YES on 3 - Children’s Hospital Bond Act

Usually I’m against special-interest government bonds on principle, but it’s under a billion dollars, and I like helping sick kids.

NO on 4 - Abortion Waiting Period and Parental Notification Initiative

I’m not just pro-choice, I’m pro-abortion. No waiting periods. No parental notification. If it were up to me, McDonalds would include morning-after pills as prizes in happy meals.

YES on 5 - Nonviolent Offender Rehabilitation Act

This is a small but positive step towards eliminating the war on drugs. I would release every non-violent drug offender if I could.

NO on 6 - Safe Neighborhoods Act

Call me “soft on crime,” but I’ll never support this kind of fascist legislation.  It steals money from education, health, and human services to fund unjust, punitive, racist policies that do nothing to make any neighborhood safer.

NO on 7 - Solar and Clean Energy Act

Anyone who pays an electric bill in California and isn’t fashionably green should vote no on this poorly written energy scheme.

NO on 8 - Same-Sex Marriage Ban

If you vote yes on 8, you are committing an act of evil, ignorant homophobia… ‘nuf said.

NO on 9 - Victims Rights and Protection Act

It’s called the “justice” system… not the “revenge” system. This is bad legislation based on primitive emotion. It’s redundant, wasteful, and shouldn’t exist.

NO on 10 - California Alternative Fuels Initiative

T. Boone Pickens is a crazy old coot. I ain’t buyin’ what he’s sellin’.

YES on 11 - Voters FIRST Act

Gerrymandering is cool to say, but not cool to do. This act eliminates the inherent conflict of interest that exists when elected officials draw up their own districts.

YES on 12 - Veterans’ Bond Act of 2008

Again, not a fan of government bonds, but you can’t really say no to veterans trying to buy homes.

Reblogged since this is how I’m voting. Except for Prop 1 (high speed rail link should lead to the development of municipal light rail systems to hook up to it, reducing the amount of cars on the road and so on. Plus trains are neat.), and possibly Prop 3 (the hospitals still having taken advantage of the last round of bonds, and the wording on the proposition is kinda vague as to how they can use the cash).
